208. You Really Got Me by The Kinks 1964

the kinks- you really got me

For me this is where rock music begins. Though I was very young even I realised the impact of this record. The heavy riff, distorted guitars and broken speakers this is the sound of the future. Nothing like this had happened before the closest maybe  "Shaking All Over" by Johnny Kidd and The Pirates. But that was still quite fifties. The Beatles had the pop records , the Stones had the blues but this just blasted out the radio.
It reminds me of going to see Blackpool play and the pop records of the day would play over the tannoy. Walking home clasping my football programme there was this caff we always passed. It was just like the one you always see in old sixties movies with the expresso machine and the steam on the windows. This is the sound of the sixties moving up a gear.
Girl, you really got me goin'
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'
Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night

Yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I don't know what I'm doin', now
Oh yeah, you really got me now
You got me so I can't sleep at night

You Really Got Me
You Really Got Me
You Really Got Me
