23. Knowing Me Know You by Abba 1977

As punk music broke quietly in Australia Abba exploded. It was horrible. I was a student teacher and it was all the kids wanted to listen to,You couldn't escape them. Fernando was such a horrible number one it made me scared to put on Countdown for those long weeks it reigned. They had some great songs like SOS and Elvis Costello said he made This Years Model after listening to Arrival. But I couldn't stand them. However it was at an Elvis concert at the Arts centre that I first got turned around. He played a brilliant version of Knowing Me Knowing You. It made me seek out the Abba version because there was no recording of him doing it. And yes it's a brilliant song.
Both a sad song dealing with their eventual break ups and a happy song in the way all Abba songs are happy it as such sweet power. Even Steve Coogan could dispel it's magic. I would love to get my hands on the Elvis version though.
